“The Jamie Baum Quartet is a group to reckon with. Jamie Baum herself is an amazing flautist.”
— The Himalayan Times (Nepal)

“Baum dug in with fluid and imaginative solos, balanced between bebop and post-Coltrane phrasing, adding variety alternating between C and alto flutes.”

The Jamie Baum Quartet/Quintet

In addition to her Septet+ and Short Stories bands and side-woman work, Jamie has continually performed with her Quartet (or Quintet) throughout her career as a jazz soloist. In this configuration, she uses the traditional jazz format of horn, piano, bass and drums with music ranging from her arrangements of both classic and modern jazz tunes to her originals specifically for this setting.

Quartet and quintet performances have included many of the top venues and festivals including the Guimaraes Jazz Festival (Portugal), Birdland (NYC), Regatta Bar (Boston), Pizza Express (London), Blue Whale (LA), JazzMandu Jazz Festival (Nepal), Bogui (Madrid), Nova Jazz Cava, (Terrassa, Spain), Torino Jazz Club (Italy), The Rex (Toronto), One Step Down (DC), Cezanne (Houston), Murry’s Jazz (MO), Nighttown (Cleveland), etc.

“(Baum’s Quintet) gelled beautifully in their ensemble roles and struck tasteful sparks off each other, Colligan producing some rich, cascading explorations and both Baum and Haskins were powerful and emotive in their solos. The unusual front-line of trumpet and flute resulted in intriguing textures in both theme statements and duo ‘commentaries’ throughout an absorbingly varied program, this was a classy, musicianly performance from a top-notch band.”
— Chris Parker, The Vortex (UK)

“Guimarães Jazz 2016 had the privilege to count with the work and dedication of Jamie Baum, Luis Perdomo, Zack Lober and Jeff Hirshfield. For two weeks they worked intensively on various projects – the ESMAE’s Big Band and String Ensemble, the Jam’s Sessions and the Jazz Workshops. They gave an excellent concert with an unprecedented group of American and Polish musicians.”
— Ivo Martins, Artistic Director, Guimaraes Jazz Festival and Workshop (Portugal)
